  • What new questions has your internship inspired you to ask about our world? What has it made you wonder about? What are you moved to go out and do or learn about on your own time?
  • - I have asked countless questions regarding things in the music industry. Everything from how to secure myself as an artist legally from getting the short stick when dealing with record companies, to what ob should I first take in the industry.
  • How might internship influence the direction of your life?
  • - I know already that I want a job in the music industry, preferably as a performer, but after being with the people that I have been with for the past three weeks, I know that there plenty of jobs that could be equally as benefiting as that.
  • How did interpersonal relationships and/or collaboration at work influence your understanding of life outside of high school?
  • - Now I know that life outside high school is very much about trusting your co-workers, and keeping lines of communication always open. Also, you definina

    • How did you make a meaningful contribution to your workplace?
    - I offer a helping hand to anyone who needs it, whenever they need it, without question. Also I play a lot of music, so if they need a musician at any time, I am here for help.
    • How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education?
    - It has taught me many long term skills that will transfer to adulthood with me. For example, I've learned how to deal with people by watching how my mentor does it. She does it by making them feel like they are in charge so they are more cooperative. Also, I've learned about what it is like to run a buisiness of your own

Being with this internship has really set in my desire to be in a career that is based around music. Whether that is being a "Rockstar", music teacher, or some other job in the music industry. I found that it is definitely best to get a degree in music before taking up a teaching career. Most of the adults working in the music studio that I am doing my internship with are all collage graduates. I feel that with my current background in music I am definitely on the right path musically. All I need to do is make it official with a major in music, then I will be free to do whatever my little heart desires in music.

Just, cleaning the floor with an industrial mop! There can me no dust for the ballerinas!

Learning some new music. One must know the songs before you can teach it to a Padawan.

Carrying equipment to the car parked just outside. Preparing for the upcoming gig. :)

Packing the car. We must pack everything neatly so we can put the most amount equipment in without breaking anything.

But, sometimes just forcing and a little encouragement always works. :)

The final result of packing the car. We get to off load, set up, quick sound check (that's what's happening in this photo) and then we're off. Playing the gig at a school. Not the usual venue for a rock and roll party band like the one in this picture.

    Picture
The've had me do other events too. Like help set up and run the spot light for this play. Opening night is this Fri, 6/7. I will be running the spot light then too.

    Picture
They also sometimes have me personally play some... a bit larger gigs. This is the Kids rock event at Petco park.

A creative way to show the upright grand piano that students use during private piano lessons. Also, in the top of the picture you can see several guitars hanging up on the wall.

    Picture
This is showing the mirror in the background. As you can see if has a lot of writing on it, this is becasuse the white boards have been taken down so they can paint the walls. Also, you can see that they have a lot of pianos, so they can hold many students at a time.

During my time with the CCMA, I've learned that I really must self advocate when in a real, professional, work environment. Whenever there is something I dont understand, or I finish a task, I immediately go to her and ask what I can be doing next, or how I can do what I am doing in a way that makes sense. Also, she has me make my own judgment calls on some of the tasks that I am currently doing. For example, given my wide musical background, my mentor is having me test the musical equipment in her studio and told me to judge whether the item should be dumped or saved due to its working condition.

This is my first view of the CCMA music studio. The reception desk is in the bottom left corner of the photo and that is where Mrs. Beth, or whoever is running the entrance at the time sits and greets anyone that walks in. Also, the banner of the studio hangs over head, to let all who enter know... exactly where they are.

From the reception desk to the main hall. This is where jam sessions, ballet practice, and full band practice occur. This room is complete with a full drum set, a large mirror, and a wall mounted hand rail.

    Picture
This is the drum set that is always set up in the main hall. When it is not in use, it is collapsed and moved back so it makes room for the ballerinas.

    Picture
This is the big "ensemble" room. This is where larger piano lessons are held, and where guitar lessons are conducted. Right now, the walls are being re-done right now, so they will be re-painted in the near future.

    Picture
This is my favorite room, because this is where all of the drum lessons occur. There are two drum sets, plus a lot of extra equipment. The room is sound proofed and has other musical items for silencing the loud drums.

    • What questions do you have about your internship?
    - I have no further questions regarding my duties for internship since the last post. Everything about my internship has been fairly thought out.
    • What connections can you make between this internship and what you've done in school?
    - My mentor really likes creating benchmarks for short, medium, and long term goals for what ever project she is doing, or assigning someone else to do so there is no confusion as to what you're supposed to be doing.
    • Has anything happened that's worth telling us about? Funny stories?
    - Mrs. Beth needed a band to play for one of her events at Petco Park. So she turned to myself and asked if my band would play. I was happy to oblige and so was my singer, but my guitarists had other duties they needed to attend to, so Preston Royal and my little brother sat in and played 7 songs live with us. It was one of my favorite gigs that I have played.
    • What have you learned about your organization's mission and purpose?
    - Nothing new since the last time I wrote about it.
    • What new skills are you developing (or will you need to develop) for this internship?
    - Im learning how to handle "rowdy" people because my mentor has to deal with them all of the time. So through watching how she handles them, I'm learning how to do the same.

    • What questions do you have about your internship?
    - I don't have any questions for about my internship, everything is completely clear. On the first day that i went to the location, my mentor and I sat down and went over everything with her, and then she answered any questions that I have.
    • What connections can you make between this internship and what you've done in school?
    - It's very project based, there is always a project to do, also, we're working with the public a lot.
    • Has anything happened that's worth telling us about? Funny stories?
    - I thought it was really cool that while taking inventory, I got to set up one of the drum sets and play it in the middle of the studio. :)
    • What have you learned about your organization's mission and purpose?
    - To teach kids how to play music, or to better their musical abilities. Also, to bring music to the public via band gigs.
    • What new skills are you developing (or will you need to develop) for this internship?
    - I'm definitely developing better communication skills becuase my mentor and I are alw

    - The thing that really strikes me about the workplace is the location that it is in. It was a bit hard to find, and I assume that most people deal with that same issue their first time there as well. Also, they share the studio with several other businesses. Ex. A ballet studio.

    - This thing that really strikes me about my colleagues is the atmosphere that they provide. It is very relaxed and laid back, but I still know exactly what I am supposed to be doing.

    - What strikes me about the job is how many people they must deal with on a daily bases, and how calm you must be to work with frustrated people successfully.

    - I really excited to get to work with all of the professional musicians and people that have worked in the industry. I'm really looking forward to absorbing all of the incite they have to offer.

    - I'm not worried about anything to be honest.
